Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary (Kannada: ರಂಗನತಿಟ್ಟು ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮ) in Mandya District of the Indian state of Karnataka, is a very beautiful Bird Sanctuary on the banks of river Kaveri. Thousands of birds migrate from various countries like Germany, France, South Africa, Japan, ... to this sanctuary during end of winter & summer (Jan - June). April/May is the peak time when you find lots of birds of different variety. End of June they start returning back.

Getting There:

The nearest town to this sanctuary is Srirangapatna which is just 3 km away. Nearest train station is Srirangapatna. Mysore is around 16 km south from this place. If you are driving, you can take a right turn after crossing Srirangapatna on the Bengaluru - Mysuru state highway while coming from Bengaluru. There are signboards on the highway. From Mysuru, you can take KRS road & take a right after few kms at a junction where if you take left, it goes to Brindavan Gardens.

The evening humming sound of the birds is so pleasant & refreshing. You need to take a boat ride to have a closer look at the birds. There are a lot of crocodiles also, so be careful. Don't put your hands inside water & also don't throw food items inside the river.

Another bunch of birds in another Island.
