Kuppalli, Karnataka, India (with photos)

Kuppalli (Kannada: ಕುಪ್ಪಳ್ಳಿ) is a small village in Thirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Its the birthplace & the childhood home of the great Kannada poet & playwrighter & Jnana Peetha awardee Kuvempu. His pen-name is based on this place "Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa"

The childhood home of Kuvempu has been converted to a museum by a trust dedicated to Kuvempu. They have undertaken very good developmental works to showcase the works done by Kuvempu to the external world. Kuppalli is also the birthplace of Poornachandra Tejaswi, son of Kuvempu. He is also a famous Kannada writer & novelist.



Kavimane

On top of a small hill in Kuppalli, there is Kavishaila which is a rock monument made of huge rocks dedicated to Kuvempu. The rocks are placed in a circular fashion, at the center of it is the memorial of Kuvempu where he was laid to rest after his death.

Near to the Kavishaila, there is a rock where Kuvempu & his other friends used to discuss on literature. There is a rock containing etched signatures of Kuvempu, B M Srikantaiah, T S Venkannaiah & later by Poornachandra Tejaswi.
