Gomateshwara Statue, Shravanabelagola, Karnataka

Shravanabelagola (Kannada: ಶ್ರವಣಬೆಳಗೊಳ) is a town in the Hassan district of the Indian state of Karnataka. The place is very famous for the statue of Gommateshwara & also its an important pilgrimage center in Jainism. The town of Shravanabelagola lies between the 2 famous hills Vindhyagiri & Chandragiri.


The 57 feet tall monolithic statue of Gommateshvara is considered to be world's largest monolithic statue.  Inscriptions at the base of the statue written in old Kannada language dates back to 10th century.



Getting There:
Shravanabelagola is around 13 km south east of Channarayapattna, 50 km south east of Hassan, its around 11 km south of Bengaluru - Mangalore Highway (NH48)
From Bengaluru: Its around 145 km
Route: Bengaluru --NH4--> Nelamangala --NH48--> Kunigal --NH48--> Yadiur --NH48--> Shravanabelagola cross --> Shravanabelagola
The road is too good, its the 4 lane road till the Shravanabelagola cross, from there its just 11 km.
