Shivanasamudra, Gagana Chukki & Bhara Chukki Falls (Bluff) & Talakadu Trip, Karnataka, India (with photos)

Shivanasamudra Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Karnataka, India. There is a hydro electric power project here also called as Bluff. The Shivanasamudra falls are formed on the Cauvery river. A little distance before the falls, the river splits into two, forming an island. The two streams falls down to the same point and flows downstream. The two falls are called
*
Gagana Chukki (90 metres)
*
Bhara Chukki (69 metres)

Distance from Bengaluru is around 135 km
Route: Bengaluru - Bidadi - Ramnagara - Maddur - Malavalli - Shivanasamudra
Best time to visit is July & August when the Cauvery river is full
The state highway (Bengaluru - Mysuru) all the way from Bengaluru to Malavalli is too good, a stretch of 20 km from Malavalli to Shivanasamudra is not so good.

Ok, let me now share my experience to this trip which includes Talakadu also. It was on Aug 15th me & my college friends decided to go for this trip. We hired a Toyata Qualis for this trip. Woke up early morning around 5 AM, one of my friend Sunil is a master in cooking, so we thought of preparing some thing & carry it so that we can have it on the way. Sunil with assistance of Santosh, Shambhu & Ragha prepared Idlis with sambar & chutney. Me & Sanganna who don't know a bit of cooking took a job of packing the food & arranging all the things :)

It was almost 7 AM when we started from Bengaluru. The Bengaluru - Mysuru road is too good. As usual Sunil started throwing some PJs & the person who would comment on it immediately was Santosh. Shambhu was sitting quite initially but later charged up, Sanganna was busy in taking photos to make a Microsoft PPT later :) Ragha was a senior person so he did'nt interfere in these kind of jokes. After travelling some distance we got hungry, so we stopped by for having break fast after Channapatna. There was a small water stream, not exactly a stream, it was water flowing from the paddy fields :) Looking at that we were curious to jump & cross that ...

Look at my jumping skills, so nice right ! Left side is Santosh who is trying hard to jump & right side its me, photography courtesy goes to Sanganna.
Then we had our breakfast. Idlies were too good that too in that wonderful nature it felt it too tasty. Then after the break we started our journey to Shivanasamudra. It was almost 11:00 AM we reached the falls. We parked our vehicle. From the place where we parked the vehicle the falls was not visible .. we had to walk a little bit. We kept walking & then after some distance we were suddenly surprised to see this beautiful water fall. With Cauvery river flooding with high current of water made the falls so beautiful, i don't have words to describe it .. you need to experience it ! But the place will be too crowded many people from Bengaluru & Mysuru will be visiting these places. After having a glimpse of Gagana Chukki we went to Bhara Chukki where we spent lot of time.

Bhara chukki is also too good, we got down in to the water, relaxed in water for some time. After spending enough time in water we had lunch & then started our journey to Talakadu. Talakadu is around 30 km from Bhara Chukki.

Talakadu is scenic and spiritual pilgrimage center, Cauvery river takes a sharp curve here so Talakadu is kind of completely surrounded by the river. There are many Temples here but most of the Temples are covered by sand now. There is said to be a curse on Talakadu by Alamelamma on the Wodeyar Dynasty of Mysuru in the 16th centuary. One of the curse was "May Talakad turn into a barren expanse of sand" that is the reason the entire Talakadu region is covered with sand, you feel like you are in a desert.

We took darshana in 5-6 Temples, it was already late & also everybody was tired after walking in sand we thought of returning back to Bengaluru, had snacks & tea in Talakadu & left to Bengaluru. We could see an nice sunset :-)

Here is the video of the water falls ...
